India to push horticulture in Russia

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, Nov. 22

As part of the Union Government's plan to push value of exports in a big way in the next few years, the Commerce Ministry is making efforts to find a new market in Russia for Indian agricultural and horticultural exporters. The Ministry has recently sent a team to Russiato explore the opportunities. The team that comprised senior officials of APEDA studied the local needs and conditions.

"We have studied issues like finding partners, how to enter the market and the procedures involved," a senior Ministry official told Business Line. The team had identified five-six specific areas in processed foods and horticultural products. "We have found that there is a huge demand for fruits and vegetables and processed foods," he said.

After the visit, the team prepared a detailed report that threw light on a variety of aspects. One of the major problems, the officials found, was language. The report also gave suggestions on issues that needed to be sorted out for facilitating exports.
