Bangalore , Nov. 23 The Infosys Technologies Chief Mentor, Mr N.R. Narayana Murthy, has said that the industries in the State can create more jobs if the Government speeds up infrastructure projects. Mr Murthy, who was speaking on behalf of 17 industrialists who were honoured on the occasion of Karnataka's 50th anniversary, said that the State Government should complete infrastructure projects in time if it wants the industry to create more jobs. Citing an example, he said the Government should start work on laying a new road to connect the international airport near Bangalore immediately. "If the airport project is complete and not the road connecting the airport, we will become a laughing stock of the whole world," he added.
Unemployment rate up
Mr Murthy, however, pointed out that the current Government had created an environment of cooperation and friendship and, hence, should be lauded for taking proactive steps to build infrastructure in the State. He said that it was necessary to take immediate steps to create more jobs as the unemployment rate in the State was as high as 20 per cent.
The State Government also launched a training scheme for the youth during the occasion. The State Industry Minister, Mr Katta Subramanya Naidu, said under the `Suvarna Kayaka Udyoga Shikshana Yojane' one lakh youth will be trained during the year in various skills through a private-public partnership. "My interaction with industry has revealed that about 5 lakh jobs can be created over a short time through this programme," Mr Naidu said.
