Letters Sectoral indices
This refers to `BSE revises sectoral indices' (Business Line, November 26). Of late, it is seen that the price movements of scrips have less of a bearing on the indices. The market volatility may be a major contributing factor. But, more importantly, the inclusion of certain scrips based on sentimental factors may affect the general price movements. For example, the recent skyrocketing price pattern of real estate stocks, which are not included in the general indices, did not affect the BSE or the NSE indices. The Exchanges will have to consider such issues which affect the investor sentiments and thereby the market as a whole. C. P. Velayudhan Nair Kochi
