Kochi Nov. 30

A delegation from Joongang Chemical Industry, Seoul, South Korea is slated to visit the Fertiliser and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) in the second week of December and hold discussions on setting up a joint venture for gypsum-based products. Gypsum is a by-product produced in FACT during the manufacture of phosphoric acid at the rate of five tonnes for every one tonne of the acid.

Over the years, more than 30 lakh tonnes of gypsum has accumulated around the company's production units, which it now proposes to set up as a building products park based on gypsum near the gypsum yard.

The technology for manufacturing non-load bearing solid blocks using gypsum is available with FACT and the company is willing to provide land on lease and other utilities to the extent possible on mutually agreeable terms, as well as raw material gypsum, a press release from FACT said.

FACT had invited expression of interest from parties for setting up manufacturing facilities for production of value-added products based on gypsum such as plaster boards, panels, tiles, bricks, load bearing construction materials on a joint venture, build own operate and transfer basis.
