Strategy Karnataka Soaps to diversify products range Our Bureau
Coimbatore , Dec. 11 Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KSDL), maker of the Mysore Sandal soap, currently on a product diversification plank, is planning to offer a few more personal healthcare products as a follow-up to its recent introduction in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka of its branded ayurvedic toilet soap Herbal Care. The company has proposed to introduce liquid soap variants and also its own shampoo products. "We are already working on them as part of our diversified products range and we may hit the market soon," said Mr G.S. Babu Siddakumar, Executive Director of KSDL. The product diversification has been thought of partly to meet the evolving business opportunity in the personal healthcare segment and also to take the pressure off from the high cost /scarce pure sandalwood oil-based soap making. Despite the high raw material costs involved in its premium brand Mysore Sandal soaps, KSDL would continue to anchor its healthcare products on the premium soap brand with which the company had an emotive identification for about nine decades and it would not withdraw from making Mysore Sandal soaps, he said. Talking to press persons here in connection with the official launch of its ayurvedic Herbal Care soap, Mr Siddakumar said that after last month's Chennai launch, his company had vigorously taken up market launch of Herbal Care across Tamil Nadu this month. It would be in a position to reach the new herbal soap across 60,000 sales outlets in Tamil Nadu and Chennai over the next two or three days.
TV commercials
Simultaneously, the company will also be launching the screening of its TV commercials featuring the south Indian actor Sneha as its brand ambassador for the Herbal Care soap.
