58 product filings from Bangalore base

Hyderabad , Dec. 11

As IT solutions provider Wipro Ltd scales up to the next level of services, that innovation is at its heart comes through clearly.

Backed with about 48 innovation centres, which work on next generation products and services, the company seeks to take the third party outsourcing services to the next level.

Ranked as the third largest global third party R&D outsourcing services provider, engaging about 15,000 people, it has thus far filed for about 58 product filings from its Bangalore base. Product filing is a stage ahead of patent filing. The Executive Vice-President, Human Resources, Mr Pratik Kumar, said the company has been incubating about 40 new technology centres. These centres showcase the way forward and work on potential trends and help to converge ideas of large corporations. The company has grown to 63,000 people and it is a big challenge to ensure that technology solutions are delivered seamlessly to customers spread across the globe. This would not have been possible without creating a robust internal training procedures and creating leaders, he said.

Referring to initiatives such as Wividus, the integrated shared services portal that handles all the employee related transactions across the globe, Mr Kumar said that it carries out over 2,500 travel transactions and resolves over 1,000 employee queries a day.

The attrition rate has been pegged at about 13 per cent, which is way below the industry average.

"However, at Wipro we would like to bring this down to about 10-12 per cent, and best HR practices would ensure that we achieve this goal. Already we have been rated as the third best employer,'' he said.

The company is poised for major expansion and expects to see more than 50 per cent of its growth coming from other than its major base of Bangalore.

This would be by signing up for expansion in centres in other cities including Hyderabad, where it is poised to enter into an agreement for a special economic zone, which would be based in a 100-acre tech campus.

Mr Kumar, said that it has been the company mandate to grow more than 50 per cent of its expansion outside of Bangalore, and a big chunk of this would be from Hyderabad.
