Shipping Baltic Exchange comes to Asia
Dome of the old Baltic Exchange in London.
The Baltic Exchange, the world's independent source of maritime market information for trading and settlement of physical and derivative, has opened an Asia-Pacific representative office in Singapore to focus on the development of Baltic freight market information for the benefit of the growing number of Exchange members in the region. The Exchange has 60 member-companies based in the Asia-Pacific region. The Singapore office will be run by Mr Philip Williams, an experienced shipbroker. True, it is difficult for an organisation with its centre of gravity in the west having another time zone to respond to the needs of the east; yet the opening of the office is considered an important step towards meeting the requirement of the growing shipping market of the region. Meanwhile, the Baltic is supporting a British Government initiative to hold a conference in London on January 31, looking at investment opportunities for Indian shipping.
