Tea Quality teas fetch higher prices at Coonoor sale P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , Dec. 17 Prices increased for quality teas and managed to remain firm for others at the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) held here on Friday. The volume of 10. 42 lakh kgs offered was the lowest of the last seven weeks. But with the demand being irregular for some sorts, prices refused to rise for all the invoices. "Brighter liquoring teas received good support from quality conscious upcountry buyers. The brokens among the good CTC leaf grades got Rs 2-3 a kg more than last week. Fannings which fetched around Rs 62-65 a kg last week got as much as Rs 66-72 this week. Better medium and medium brokens were hardly steady. Plainer sorts managed to hold last levels. Select whole leaf and brokens among the orthodox leaf grades were dearer. "Flavoury primary orthodox dusts received only stray demand, but the prices quoted were substantially dearer. The lesser high grown teas managed to remain steady. But, the powdery varieties came to a dearer market," an auctioneer told Business Line. Quotations held by the brokers indicated bids ranging from Rs 39-40 for the plain leaf grades and Rs 62-67 for the brighter liquoring grades. They ranged Rs 39-41 for the plain dust grades and Rs 65-80 for the brighter liquoring grades.
