Mumbai, Dec. 18

Sunil Mehta, who passed away last Saturday, was responsible for leading the association's research initiatives.During his five-year tenure there, he also pioneered Nasscom's international public affairs and public relations exercise, says the Nasscom Web site.

He played a large role in endorsing India's reliability amidst the hostile response to outsourcing, says the Web site. Many of Nasscom's recent initiatives such as the online national registry of BPO employees and Nasscom Assessment of Competence (NAC), were initiated in his tenure, it says.

Mr Mehta started his career with Citibank. In 1989, he established INFAC, an industry research and information company, which was later sold to CRISIL in 2000. Mr Mehta continued to serve as a CEO with the company till 2001. He held a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Mumbai University and a Master's in Business Administration from IIM, Ahmedabad.
