New Delhi, Dec. 19

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has clarified that the prescribed tariff for rent and refundable security deposits for set-top boxes in CAS notified areas, is exclusive of applicable taxes.

In an official release, TRAI said today that as per the tariff order of August 31, it had prescribed among other things, the ceiling for maximum retail price for pay channel and the for free-to-air channels for supply of set-top boxes on rental basis.

However, to clear doubts over the tariff, particularly the inclusion or otherwise of taxes, prescribed for rental charges of set top boxes, the TRAI was adding an explanation in the schedule related to set-top boxes.
