Global prices rejuvenate spot rubber

A steady recovery in global rubber prices during the past few sessions rejuvenated the domestic spot market on Wednesday. Covering groups turned active once again and sellers stayed back keeping a low profile.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 improved to Rs 89.50 from Rs 88.50 a kg at Kottayam but the grade was reported steady at Rs 89 a kg at Kochi. There were enquiries from major manufacturers at lower levels.

Futures weaken

Rubber futures weakened on NMCE quoting the January contract at Rs 91.30 ( 91.33 ), February at Rs 93.00 ( 93.17 ), March Rs 94.37 ( 94.41 ) and April at Rs 96.55 ( 96.97) a kg for RSS 4. The total turnover stood at 5,644 ( 6,619 ) tonnes and open interest at 7,943 ( 7,609 ) tonnes. The market was better till midday but lost ground towards close on long liquidation.

The January contract for the grade closed at Rs 91.34 against Rs. 91.13 a kg on MCX . The trading volumes were 1026( 952 ) tonnes.

Spot prices (Ra a kg) were: RSS-4: 89.50 (88.50); RSS-5: 87 (85.50);

ungraded: 83.50 (82); ISNR 20: 86 (86) and latex 60% : 57.35(54.70).
