Management CII keen to become CAM-I member Archana Venkat
How it will benefit Help to gain access to academic and industry related research work Provide companies with market research on foreign markets Help companies wanting to expand operations abroad
Chennai , Dec. 21 The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is in talks with the Consortium for Advanced Management - International (CAM-I), an international research and development body, for membership. CAM-I, a global non-profit organisation, works in areas of cost, process and performance management. It shares research and best practices between member organisations to help them improve their performance. It also sets benchmarks for companies to follow and rates them accordingly. According to Mr Ashok G. Vadagama, President, CAM-I, recent talks with CII members such as Mr Jamshyd Godrej and some others indicate that the CII would like to be a member of CAM-I. "Indian companies want to know how to implement change management. A CAM-I membership will give them access to global research on change and risk management besides access to global speakers and consultants who dwell on this subject," he said. If CII becomes a CAM-I member, it would gain access to academic and industry related research work carried out by all CAM-I member organisations such as the Unites States Department of Defence, Grant Thornton, Bank of America, IBM Corporation, Boeing Company, US Air Force, SAP and US Patent and Trademark Office. CAM-I also provides member companies with market research on foreign markets. This will be useful to Indian companies wanting to expand operations abroad, said Mr Vadagama. Further Indian companies rated by CAM-I on their performance would gain faster acceptability in foreign markets, he said. All future CAM-I activities in India would be facilitated by Great Lakes Institute of Management, a Chennai-based business school that became a CAM-I member last December. Great Lakes will aid CAM-I in preparation of frameworks for Indian companies to follow on issues related to cost cutting and profitability besides selecting topics and organising CAM-I seminars across the country. Mr Vadagama said he was also exploring membership options with the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, the Hero Honda group and the Tata Group. Present CAM-I members from India include companies such as the TVS group, the Sanmar group and the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India.
