`Software, construction sectors have great demand'

Our Bureau

Pune , Dec. 21

The third annual convocation of the National Institute of Construction Management and Research saw parallels being drawn between software and construction industries.

Mr Nandan Nilekani, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Infosys, chief guest at the occasion, noted that about 4.5 per cent of GDP went into the infrastructure segment, which is about $36 billion. This is bound to increase and touch $120 billion, a four-fold increase in the near future.

He pointed out that the public demand for good infrastructure was on the rise.

He stressed that the focus of the industry should be to provide quality, as this was one of the hallmarks with which the software industry had gained great strides. The aim should be to deliver services faster, cheaper but with better solutions.

Commenting on Infosys, he said last fiscal had seen revenues of $2 billion and this year it would be crossing the $3-billion mark. The company would also be hiring more than 1,000 professionals.
