Infrastructure States - Andhra Pradesh AP orders work on irrigation projects Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan. 2 Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, has directed the Irrigation Department officials to commence work on Indira Sagar and Rajiv Sagar projects immediately. The two projects would irrigate four lakh acres of land in Khammam, Krishna and West Godavari districts. Responding to representations made by people's representatives from the region, the Chief Minister said an amount of Rs 500 crore would be released in the next financial year for these projects. The Indira Sagar project would cost Rs 1,824 crore, while Rajiv Sagar required Rs 1,681 crore. Later, reviewing the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission programme (JNNURM) that was aimed at developing urban infrastructure and basic services for the urban poor, the Chief Minister asked the officials to complete the sanctioned projects.
