DaimlerChrysler India sales double

Our Bureau

Widens its product portfolio

Pune , Jan. 2

For the calendar year ended December 2006, DaimlerChrysler India has seen its sales double as compared with 2005. It has registered sales of 2,121 units in the domestic market during the last calendar year, registering a growth rate of 11 per cent as against 5.7 per cent in 2005.

During this period, DCIL has also netted the highest-ever sales for the Mercedes Benz S-class, E-Class and C-Class cars for India, Dr Wilfried G. Aulbur, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of DCIL, has said.

He said that keeping in view customer expectations, DCIL has widened its product portfolio of its Mercedes-Benz brand offerings for the Indian market. The company produces the S-Class, E-Class and the C-Class cars in India, while other products are offered through the imported cars route as completely built units. These include the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, M-Class and popular models such as the SLK-Class and the CLS-Class.

"We can today offer our Indian customers the latest products and technology advantages parallel to such introductions in leading international markets. The well-entrenched sales and distribution network that extends across 29 cities in India has also been a critical enabler in the strong sales record for 2006," Dr Aulbur said.

He pointed out that over the past years, the customer profile of Mercedes-Benz owners has witnessed a distinct shift and today the customer base is growing younger in terms of average age of ownership. There is also a growing demand from non-metro cities. To satisfy customer needs, DCIL has expanded its operations to cities such as Ludhiana, Kolhapur, Madurai and Bhubaneshwar.
