Promotions & Offers Logistics - Airlines Air Sahara launches new fare scheme Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan. 2 Air Sahara on Tuesday announced the launch of a new scheme that would see passengers being charged a minimum rate of Rs 2.40 per kilometre travelled, on select flights operated by the airline. Sources indicated that the airlines' latest scheme could see air fares rise on those sectors where they are currently below Rs 2.40 per kilometre.

However, there is unlikely to be any fall in fares on sectors where the airline is currently charging more than Rs 2.40 per kilometre under the new scheme. Airline officials said that it would be difficult to say anything on fares as there were several schemes that were being offered by it. Air Sahara's decision to charge not less than Rs 2.40 per kilometre is in keeping with an earlier decision taken by the Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA) in November last year. In an effort to control sickness in the industry, FIA decided that while full service airlines such as Air Sahara, Jet Airways and Indian would charge a minimum fare of Rs 2.40 per kilometre, low-cost airlines such as Air Deccan and IndiGo would charge a minimum fare of Rs 2 per kilometre. "With the implementation of the new scheme a passenger can save up to 80 per cent of the normal fare. "The advantage of the new scheme is that tickets under the scheme can be purchased anytime unlike the other advance purchase fares being offered by the airline which are available only if booked in advance," Air Sahara said in a statement. The new proposal offers a ticket between Bangalore-Chennai at Rs 825 instead of the normal fare of Rs 3,675, a saving of 78 per cent. Similarly, on the Delhi-Hyderabad sector a passenger can save up to 74 per cent and fly for Rs 3,025 instead of the normal fare of Rs 11,535. On the Delhi-Bangalore sector a passenger can save up to 70 per cent and fly for Rs 4,175 rather than pay the normal fare of Rs 13,870. The airline statement adds that the traffic on each flight would determine the availability of seats under the new scheme.
