Rupee falls by around 10 paise

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Jan. 3

The rupee fell by around 10 paise on Wednesday on the back of corporate demand. The currency opened at 44.20/25 and touched an intra-day low of 44.45/46. It, however, closed at 44.35/36 against Tuesday's close at 44.24/25.

Dealers said corporate demand for dollars got the rupee to slip. The currency was also tracking the weakness in the yen, which fell from 118.72 yen to 119.45 yen against the dollar. "The easing of rupee liquidity in the system has also aided the dollar," said a dealer at a private bank. In forwards, the 6-month closed at 3.62 per cent (3.15) and the 12-month at 2.94 per cent (2.69).
