New Products & Services Industry & Economy - Radio/TV Variety - Entertainment & Leisure States - West Bengal SkyB, SPS Arts venture to launch mega serials Our Bureau
Kolkata , Jan. 5 Shortly after entering into a joint venture agreement with SkyB, the company which owns the Aakaash Bangla satellite channel, SPS Arts & Entertainment has announced a range of programmes that will be aired on the channel from February 12. Beginning that day, four mega serials - Andarmahal, Bijoynee, Prabahini Ei Samay and Shanai - will be aired during prime time. It may be recalled that, a month ago, SPS Arts & Entertainment, which is a part of the Rs 1,700-crore SPS Group of Companies that has interests in the steel, entertainment and hospitality sectors, had entered into a joint venture agreement with SkyB. The "profit-sharing" joint venture agreement takes effect from the middle of February, according to Mr Bipin Kumar Vohra, Chairman and Managing Director of the SPS Group of Companies. Mr Vohra told Business Line that, according to the agreement, SPS Arts will produce the entire software content that would be required for Aakaash Bangla, a 24-hour Bengali entertainment channel. SPS Arts would also be responsible for managing, marketing and generating revenue for the channel.
Plans Facelift
To begin with, SPS Arts would pump in Rs 10-15 crore on the channel, which continues to be on the air. A big-bang re-launch is being planned for the channel to give it a brand new and contemporary look, logo and feel. "A makeover in the real sense is necessary especially when the channel is faced with stiff competition from other channels, one of them being Sun TV," Mr Vohra said. The channel's programming content will include a game show, a musical programme and a compact news programme, among others.
