Airlines Government - Policy
Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi , Jan. 6 The Government has given in-principle approval to Jet Airways to import 11 aircraft including 10 Boeing 787-800/900 apart from granting permission to Sun TV to import one pre-owned Bombardier Challenger 604 aircraft and a new Bombardier Challenger 605 aircraft. While Jet Airways has received permission to import the aircraft to operate schedule air transport (passenger) services, Sun TV has been given permission to import the aircraft for private use.
Aircraft Delivery
The aircraft that Jet Airways plans to import are yet to be manufactured and have a list price of more than $1.5 billion. Delivery of the aircraft is expected to start in 2011. The Challenger 605 aircraft that Sun TV plans to import first flew in January 2006 and can do a non-stop journey of up to 7,400 km. In addition, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the owners of the low-cost airline IndiGo, has been permitted to import five Airbus A-320 aircraft. The airline that currently operates a fleet of six Airbus A-320 aircraft has indicated that it is to acquire at least 100 Airbus A-320 aircraft. These were among the 10 proposals cleared by the Aircraft Acquisition Committee of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The meeting also cleared the proposal of Sanmar Foundries to import a second hand Bell 407 helicopter and of JSW Steel Ltd to import a Bombardier Challenger 300 aircraft. Both the aircraft are to be utilised for private use.
