Our Bureau

Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), one of the world's leading container lines, has announced the addition of a call to the Cochin (Kochi) port in the weekly schedule of its IDX service covering the trade route between India and the US East Coast.

The new fixed weekly schedule covers Tuticorin, Kochi, Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal, Mundra, Barcelona New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Barcelona and Colombo for a 56-d over Mundra. Eight vessels of the capacity of 2500-2600 TEUs each are being deployed on the route. The IDX service is the shipping line's first direct service between India and the US East Coast.

Meanwhile, OOCL has opened a new office in Colombo to strengthen its position in the region. This follows its joint venture agreement with Sri Lanka Shipping Company.
