New Projects Rama Newsprint board nod for expansion plan Our Bureau
Kolkata , Jan. 9 Armed with improved results for the third quarter ended December, 2006, the board of Rama Newsprint and Papers Ltd (RNPL), subject to approval of lenders, has approved an Rs 630-crore expansion programme whereby the company's annual production capacity will increase from about 1.32 lakh tonnes to about 3.32 lakh tonnes of newsprint and writing and printing paper. The company's products are classified under one segment. The board members met on Tuesday to review the un-audited financial results for Q3. An RNPL press note had said the profit before interest, depreciation and taxation (PBIDT) during the quarter under review jumped by 121 per cent to Rs 25.78 crore against Rs 11.64 crore in the previous year's corresponding quarter. Profit before deferred tax liability for the quarter under review is about Rs 10 crore as against a loss of Rs 3.18 crore in the previous year's corresponding quarter. Earning per share for the quarter under review is Rs 1.72 per share. It is stated that better results for the quarter is attributed to better sales realisation coupled with lower raw material, power and fuel and chemicals cost. PBDIT and profit before deferred tax for nine months ended December 31, 2006 were also higher at Rs 75.47 crore and Rs 30.87 crore as against Rs 28.10 crore and a loss of Rs 8.37 crore respectively in the corresponding period of the previous year. Earning per share for nine months period is Rs 5.31. The company has achieved production of 34,286 tonnes (104 per cent capacity utilisation) for the quarter under review as against 29,932 tonnes (91 per cent capacity utilisation) in the corresponding quarter last year.
