Shipping Cochin Shipyard delivers supply vessel to Norwegian co Our Bureau
Kochi , Jan. 12 Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has delivered a platform supply vessel, the first of the series of eight ships being built for Deep Sea Supply of Norway. This is for the first time such a product has been built in India and the second of the series is in advanced stages of commissioning, a CSL statement said. The third of the series was launched last week along with the delivery of the third bulk carrier to the Clipper Group.
Potential
The potential for this type of ship in the future is very high, with huge demands tendered by ONGC and Shipping Corporation of India. This platform supply vessels are of the popular UT-755-L design and there are about 120 vessels of this design worldwide. The vessel is designed for satisfying the specific demands of the offshore industry for transport of deck cargo, pipes, liquid cargo, cement, etc. and unloading to rigs and production platforms, pipe laying barges, etc. The vessels are the workhorse of the offshore oil field industry, which acts as a lifeline carrying all operational supplies and stores to far off offshore installations.
Design
As the offshore industry moves into deeper waters, demand for such advanced vessels is expected to be higher. These ships have been designed by Rolls Royce ship technology group.The ship has been built and classified under the most stringent rules and regulations of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and is classified for unmanned engine room and dynamic positioning grade I. The vessel has also satisfied CLEAN notation of DNV, which signifies high standards of environmental safety. The yard is constructing 14 platform supply vessels for European clients.
