TN has highlighted opportunities in developing SEZ and investment scope in them.

Chennai , Jan. 17

The Tamil Nadu Government has welcomed German investors to the State to participate in engineering industry and share their expertise in infrastructure building.

Mr Thomas Jurk, Deputy Chief Minister of German Federal State of Saxony and Minister for Economic Affairs and Labour, who leads a delegation of industry representatives, told presspersons after meeting with the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister, Mr K. Anbazhagan, that the delegation had been briefed on the various investment opportunities here.

Mr Jurk said that the delegation includes representatives from companies in mechanical and plant engineering. German companies were interested in joint ventures in these areas.

Over the last decade-and-a-half, Saxony has focussed on infrastructure development, particularly in roads, water supply and wastewater treatment. These were areas in which German companies were interested in providing their technology, he said.

The Tamil Nadu Minister has also highlighted opportunities in developing Special Economic Zones and investment opportunities in these zones. Officials from the industries department had provided detailed information and it is `extremely positive' that a single department was handling the job of attracting investments.

Saxony is one of the largest federal States in the Federal Republic of Germany. Its industries include automobile ancillaries, engineering units and chemical industries.
