Kolkata , Jan. 17

The University of Glasgow is in talks with different Indian business schools to forge partnerships for mutual benefit. The university, which is based in the West of Scotland, on Wednesday announced a partnership with Globsyn Business School of Kolkata.

Towards this end, both the institutions announced a Post Graduate Diploma Programme in International Business that would be collaboratively conducted by the two institutions. Students undertaking the programme would have the option to complete two semesters, spread over eight months, in Glasgow. Those who complete the programme from Glasgow would also be offered a two-year work permit to take up jobs in Scotland, according to Prof. Angus Laing, Head of University of Glasgow Business School.

Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, Prof. Laing said with emerging economies such as China and India located in the region, the time was just ripe to expose students of business schools globally to the "business of management in developing countries."

The University of Glasgow has already partnered with four institutions in China. The idea is to create a network of business schools "on a multi-dimensional basis''.

In India, the University of Glasgow is in discussions with business schools for "programme delivery, staff development and to provide international students with a domestic experience."

It is also keen to take up research projects jointly with Indian business schools. However, as of now there are no plans to set up campuses jointly. For the moment, however, the focus i on "brand recognition for Glasgow in India," he said.
