Mr Justice Dipankar Datta of the Calcutta High Court today passed an order directing the West Bengal Government that Medha Patkar's right shall not be infringed by the State authority except where the situation is contrary to the law.
Responding to a writ petition filed by Ms Patkar and three others, the court passed the ad-interim order directing the State authority to file affidavit by two weeks.
While passing the order, the court observed that prayer for giving compensation for detention would be considered at the time of final hearing.
Ms Medha Patkar and others filed the writ petition praying for a declaration that her detention on January 10, at Kolkata was illegal.
A further order was prayed directing the State authority to pay compensation to the petitioner for illegal deprivation of Constitutional rights of the petitioners.
It was further asked that the State authority should not interfere with the right of movement of the petitioner.
