Centre keen to reform agriculture: Dasmunsi

Our Bureau

Ahmedabad , Jan. 17

The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, has hinted that the Centre may soon take more steps to reform agriculture so that India's economic growth goes beyond sectors such as information technology and services that, at present, form the core of this growth.

"If we register more growth in agriculture, our overall rate of growth may go up beyond the two major sectors. We have discussed this with the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar," he told presspersons here, without elaborating on the details. An increased growth in agriculture would spur industrial growth as well, he added. Mr Dasmunsi pointed out that the current economic growth at eight per cent plus was mainly in the IT and services sector.
