Technology SAP to set up RFID centre Preethi .J
Enterprise Applications
Radio frequency identification (RFID) works by tagging objects with a chip containing relevant data (such as price). The chip transmits the information on it wirelessly to a reader. This method is an alternative to bar codes, but whereas the scanner needs to be oriented towards the code, RFID tags can be read from a distance of a hundred feet. Some day, you may just be able to find that key that you keep misplacing, just by picking up a reader and pointing it around a room, almost a "google" in reality.
SAP Labs
The RFID competency centre will probably be set up at SAP Labs facility in the city in the next few months, said Mr Balakrishnan. The company has been integrating RFID in many of their projects, including one in the education sector and another for emergency evacuations in a building. India is emerging as a hotbed for RFID activities and with local manufacturing for inlay, tags, readers, and antenna being initiated, the segment is expected grow faster than expected.
