Events States - Kerala TMA announces convention chart Our Bureau
The Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, is scheduled to inaugurate the meeting, a TMA press release said. Others who are scheduled to address the inaugural session of the meeting include Mr V. Thulasidas, Managing Director, Air India, and Dr Samuel Paul, Former Director, IIM, Ahmedabad. Speakers at the convention's valedictory session will include Mr T.K.A. Nair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr Pannian Ravindran, Member of Parliament, and Mr M. Vijayakumar, State Minister for Sports and Law.
THEME
The theme for this year's TMA convention is `Trivandrum Capital Region Development - A New Vision'. Three sessions on the city as a knowledge hub, booming leisure and connectivity will be held as part of the convention. Speakers in the session on `Thiruvananthapuram as a knowledge hub', include Dr K.R.S. Krishnan, GM (R&D), Hindustan Latex, who will speak on `the current scenario - a macro analysis'; Dr B.N. Suresh, Director, VSSC, who will speak on `opportunities for the future'; and Dr G. Mohan Gopal, Director, National Judicial Academy, who will speak on `role of higher education and research - support requirements'. In the second session on `booming leisure', Dr V. Venu, Secretary-Tourism, Government of Kerala will speak on `review of current scenario and need for responsible tourism'. Dr M.I. Sahadulla, Chairman and Managing Director, KIMS Hospital, will speak on `health tourism tapping future potential' and Mr T. Damu, Vice-President (Corporate Affairs), Indian Hotels Company, will speak on `promoting MICE tourism opportunities'. The convention's third session on `connectivity' will include presentations by Mr B.S. Shekhawat, CGM, Nabard, on `road development and satellite townships'; Mr Elias John, Managing Partner, NTV News, on the Vizhinjam project; and Mr V. K. Mathews, Chairman and Managing Director, IBS Group, on `managing the linkages - the IT factor'. Recommendations arising from the convention will be submitted to the State Government and the Centre.
