Chennai Jan. 23 Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd (TNPL) has reported a net profit of Rs 22.30 crore for the third quarter of the current year, as against Rs 14.65 crore in the corresponding quarter of last year — a rise of 52 per cent.

The company's turnover increased to Rs 214.45 crore for the quarter, 8 per cent more than Rs 198.74 crore previously.

The higher increase in net profit relative to rise in turnover has come from three sources — other income, control over expenditure and lower interest costs.

`Other income' increased to Rs 7.59 crore from Rs 4.36 crore, accounting for close to half the incremental profits.

Total expenditure as a percentage of sales declined to 79.57 per cent against 81.42 per cent previously, indicating a better control over expenditure.
