K.S. BADRI NARAYANAN

Equity markets, both domestic and the US, witnessed a sharp surge last week.

On the back of this, most Indian ADRs also finished on a firm note.

Except for Dr Reddy, MTNL and Tata Motors, all the other counters maintained the momentum.

VSNL, which announced a drop in Q3 profit during last week, was the biggest gainer. Its net profit dipped to Rs 142 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2006 against Rs 150 crore recorded during the corresponding period last year.

Among IT counters, Infosys surged to $58.94 ($57.01), Patni Computers to $24.39 ($23.8084), Wipro to $17.54 ($17.33) and Satyam Computer to $23.68 ($23.43).
