Spot rubber rules weak

Kottayam Feb. 6 Spot rubber continued to rule weak on Tuesday. The trend was set by a sharp decline in Bangkok spot and an initial fall in TOCOM futures though the market leader finished in green later.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 declined to Rs 98 a kg from Rs 99 a kg at Kottayam and Kochi on selling from dealers and growers. A leading tyre manufacturer was buyer on the grade at the quoted level. The trend was mixed.

Futures decline

The domestic rubber futures lost heavily in the morning session but bounced back towards noon in tune with the Japanese market on fresh buying and short covering.

On NMCE, the February contract improved to Rs 100.80 (99.21), March to Rs 103.96 (101.75), April to Rs 109.20 (106.82) and May to Rs 113.19 (110.89) per kg for RSS 4. The March contract for RSS 4 moved up to Rs 103.65 a kg from Rs 101.64 a kg (293 lots) on MCX.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 98 (99); RSS-5: 95 (95); ungraded: 93 (93); ISNR 20: 93 (93.50) and latex 60 per cent: 64.70 (64.70).
