Visakhapatnam Feb. 7 The Indian Federation of Port and Dock Workers, affiliated to the Indian Confederation of Labour, has urged the Union Government to expedite the process of wage revision for labour in the 12 major ports in the country.

At a press meet here on Wednesday, Mr Ashok Bhattacharjee, the president of ICL, said that the wage agreement had expired by January and the Government had appointed a committee for wage revision.

"The ICL-affiliated Indian Federation should also be given membership status, along with the five recognized federations in the sector. During the last wage revision, our federation was given an observer status. But we should this time be given membership," he demanded.

Mr K. Paradesi Naidu, the Deputy Secretary-General, said the Federation's voice should be heard by the Government in effecting wage revision.

In Visakhapatnam port, the Federation had a strength of 380 out of 4,800 port and dock workers. At the all-India level, of the 75,000 port and dock workers, 9,000 of them in the Indian Federation of Port and Dock Workers.
