Hyderabad Feb. 12 In one of the largest IT events where over 10,000 techies have confirmed paid-participation, Sun Microsystems is set to host a concurrent four-city annual developer event with the theme "Shape Your Future."

To be held on February 21-23, the three-day event will be anchored at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) and linked via satellite to Pune, Mumbai and Delhi.

For the $13.5-billion IT company, India hosts over 4,00,000 developers, and the number continues to swell rapidly. The Manager, Developer Relations, India, Asia South and Australia, Sun Microsystems, Mr Naveen Asrani, told presspersons that over 6,000 developers would congregate at the country's largest convention centre. "And what we are attempting is different from what has thus far been tried in India. Time and motion simulation was conducted to ensure that there are no snags."

The Director-Strategic Alliances, Sun Micro India, Mr K.P. Unnikrishnan, said that the developer community forms the backbone and a key determinant of the Indian IT industry growth. With technology becoming a key enabler in shaping economic growth, the Indian developer community is fast moving up the value chain, influencing technology adoption.

Quoting the Sun punchline `The network is the computer,' Mr Asrani said that about 4.5 billion devices are connected to the Net that is largely driven by Sun technology. After it opened the source code, the developer community has grown to over 5 million strong and Solaris has had over 6 million downloads. The fact that Sun Developer Days has had registrations of about 10,000 people illustrates the growing number of developers in India, who have begun to make significant contribution. Significantly, a lot of technology spending is based on inputs from India and the developers influence decisions here, Mr Asrani explained.

The Satyam Computer Chairman, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, and the Executive Vice-President, Sun Microsystems, Mr Rich Green, will address the developers.
