Hyderabad Feb. 14 The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-Dac), Hyderabad is in the process of establishing what it refers to as a Wizard Lab, to take up research in embedded technologies and wireless sensors.

C-Dac has received funding for the lab with a mandate to work on wireless sensor networks, which come under the domain of ubiquitous computing. The Centre Head, C-Dac, Dr N. Sarat Chandra Babu, said that the research project seeks to use the sensors in applications such as agriculture, environment-monitoring and intelligent buildings.

He said C-Dac was working on a host of new initiatives, including language interface and India Development Gateway, all aimed at productising and reaching them out for the benefit of people.

Speaking at the ninth Foundation Day of the centre here today, Dr Babu said C-Dac has become a national resource centre for embedded systems design training.

The C-Dac has developed a tool for supply chain management, which has been customised for applicability in small and medium-sized enterprises. Referred to as e-Savya or e-Saral Vyapar Suvidha, researchers are now planning to customise this for applications in textile and steel industry.

The Managing Director of ATI Technologies India (now part of AMD), Mr Dasaradha Gude, said that students trained at the C-Dac have turned out to be excellent resource base in the areas of embedded design.
