SCR earnings register growth

Hyderabad Feb. 23 The South Central Railway (SCR) has registered a total originating freight loading of 49.74 million tonnes up to January 2007 (ten months in this financial year) as against 45.58 mt in the same period last year.

The earnings of the zone went up by 19 per cent from Rs 3,967 crore in the ten-month period last year to Rs 4,720.28 crore.

Of this, earnings from goods traffic was put at Rs 3,348.35 crore during the period as against Rs 2,836.89 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The month of January recorded freight loading of 5.96 mt, the highest for any month this year, a senior SCR official said.

Coal continued to dominate with a contribution of 19.65 mt (18.53 mt) during the period. Contribution from cement segment went up significantly from 13.89 mt to 16.64 mt. The loading of foodgrains stood at 4.57 mt (3.61 mt).

The year also saw a significant improvement in the zone's operating ratio.
