NEC, Sify tie up for thin clients

Our Bureau

Chennai, March 1

NEC Corporation and Sify Ltd have joined hands to promote the thin client computing in India, which stores software and files on a server instead of the desktop. "We are optimistic about this new thin client business and plan to grow it into a $1.25-billion business for our global operations in the next three years," Mr Kazuhiko Kobayashi, Executive Vice-President, NEC Corp, said in a press release.

The partnership aims at installing 1 lakh client terminal units and 6,000 server units within the first three years of business in India. NEC India Pvt Ltd will promote the concept of virtual PC centres (VPCC) thin computing together with Sify, a Chennai-based company, for the delivery of services.

NEC will supply VPCCs to Sify, which will utilise the centres to provide thin client systems to customers as an outsourced service. Sify will promote thin client computing through a dedicated sales force, in addition to its current enterprise sales channel, the release said.
