Mumbai March 2 Lack of demand at higher levels coupled with a clear weather forecast in Rajasthan pushed down Jeera futures on NCDEX by 2.64 per cent to Rs 11,026 per quintal. Both varieties of potato futures on MCX moved in opposite directions.

Potato mixed

While potato Tarkeshwar futures for March delivery gained 3.73 per cent to Rs 625 per quintal, the Agra variety lost 1.45 per cent to Rs 654 per cent. "Cloudy weather in Gujarat might have added to the bullish sentiments for the Tarkeshwar variety," said a dealer. Total potato (Agra and Tarkeshwar) futures registered a total volume of 4,73,160 tonnes.

Cardamom futures on NCDEX were down 2.06 per cent to Rs 446 per quintal due to less demand. Chana futures on NCDEX were down 1.81 per cent to Rs 2,010 on firm spot markets. "Arrivals have increased in main markets like Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. In Delhi spot prices were down Rs 250 at Rs 2,100 per quintal on arrivals of about 40-50 trucks (one truck carries 10 tonnes) on Friday," said an investor.

Pepper futures lost 1.56 per cent to Rs 12,385 per quintal as demand in domestic markets tapered off at high levels. Fall in kapas arrivals pushed up kapas futures on MCX by 0.44 per cent to Rs 433 per 20 kg, while kapaskhali futures rose 0.89 per cent to Rs 361 per 50 kg.

Turnover

NCDEX registered a turnover of Rs 2,802 crore (Rs 3,748 crore, up to 11 p.m.) up to 5 pm on 86,010 (101,780) trades, while on MCX it was Rs 4,365 crore (Rs 15,430 crore, up to 11 p.m.) on 74,097 (230,323) trades. Active trades were seen in chana, pepper, guarseeds, refined soy oil, jeera and gold.
