Chennai March 7 Women entrepreneurs in small and tiny sectors and traditional crafts are to get an international marketing opportunity, with the SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneurs Council (SCWEC) planning a marketing facility for the products and supporting women entrepreneurship development.

Ms V.L. Indira Dutt, who has taken over as Chairperson of SCWEC, said that along with the marketing the council would assist women entrepreneurs access loans, get trained in business skills and help become financially independent.

SCWEC is taking steps to set up a crafts village along the lines of the first such facility set up in Kathmandu. The facility inaugurated last year is an information and marketing resource supporting trade in products and services in the SAARC region, she said.

It creates greater market opportunities, designs and delivers integrated solutions for business development, supports and expands operations of SMEs through increased market access, locally and internationally.

The crafts village will showcase the products of women entrepreneurs in the SAARC countries. The SCWEC works in close association with the SAARC Chamber of Commerce.

Ms Dutt, who is also Joint Managing Director of KCP Ltd, said that the facility is likely to come up at Chennai or Hyderabad.

It would support a range of businesses with the objective of supporting women at the grassroots level and enhancing their economic status.

SCWEC hopes to network with the women's wings of the other chambers of industries and commerce, build a database and expand their support.

Ms Dutt is slated to head the SCWEC for the next two years. Each of the SAARC countries has five executive committee members; they meet 2-3 times a year to exchange ideas and support programmes.

SCWEC has the seed money for the support projects and would try to involve industrial houses and facilitate small businesses tie up with banks for credit support.
