Indian elected to Internet body

Hyderabad March 7 Mr Kusumba S, an Executive Council member and Treasurer of the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI), has been elected as a member of the Executive Council of the Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), Brisbane, Australia.

This is perhaps the first time that any South Asian has got elected to the post. The election to the council was held at Bali in Indonesia on March 2 during the 23rd annual member meet. The term of office is two years.

Mr Kusumba S, a known in the Internet industry, is the President and Managing Director of Vebtel Obconic Internet Protocol Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad, an ISP and Internet Telephony Service Provider.

APNIC is one of the five Regional Internet Registries in the world. Reacting to his election, Mr Kusumba said: "I would like to address the issue of regulating a substantial amount of Internet traffic in the region for effective utilisation of backbones with established routing practices."
