Kolkata March 8 ITC Ltd has emerged as the first corporate from India to find a place among the first 10 companies in the world to publish its Sustainability Report in compliance with the latest G3 Guidelines of the Netherlands-based Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). ITC's Sustainability Report 2006 highlights the company's contribution to the `Triple Bottomline' of economic, social and environmental capital. According to an official release by the company here on Wednesday, GRI, a UN-backed multi-stakeholder international initiative, has recently made the announcement. It is stated that on the environmental front, globally benchmarked "specific consumption of water, dedicated pursuit of the goal of zero discharge and scaling up of rain-water harvesting have enabled ITC to retain its position as a water-positive company for the fourth successive year." According to the company, the water harvesting potential created so far was over four times the company's net water consumption. ITC, according to the release, became water positive during 2006 on the back of several energy conservation measures, usage of carbon neutrals fuels and carbon sequestration through large-scale agro-forestry programmes. It is learnt that the company was now making rapid strides towards attaining `zero solid waste' status.
