Agilent Tech plans R&D centre

$35-m investments over 2 years

Bangalore March 8 Agilent Technologies plans to set up a research and development centre in Bangalore as part of its expansion plans that would see it investing $35 million in India over two years.

"The Agilent Life Science Centre will host a multi-disciplinary team for advanced technology, focusing on chemical analysis, molecular biology and software for creating novel and complex scientific applications on its bio-analytical instrument and software platform," said Mr Chris Van Ingen, President, Agilent Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis (LSCA).

Agilent Technologies plans to ramp up its headcount to 2,000 by next year from the present 1,300 and would invest of $35 million in two years.

"The initial focus will be on liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, but over time, the centre will extend R&D capabilities to other platforms such as microfluidics, gas chromatography and microarays," he said.

The Centre will collaborate with scientists in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with academic researchers from around the world for the generation of new products, solutions and applications to support activities in drug discovery, clinical trials, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food testing, forensics and diagnostics, Mr Van Ingen said.

"Agilent remains firmly committed to India, and this decision to initiate R&D activities in the country reflects our confidence in the talent pool and growth opportunities here," said Mr Venkatesh Valluri, president and country general manager, Agilent Technologies.
