ENCOURAGING PRICES: Farmers spraying pesticide on crop of black matpe (urad) near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district. Urad production during the current rabi season is estimated to increase on higher coverage of the crop, particularly in rain-fed areas of Andhra Pradesh and other southern States. Higher prices for urad have encouraged farmers to go in for largescale cultivation of the crop.
