Steady trend at Kochi tea sale

Kochi March 9 The 7,88,000 kg of dust tea on offer at the Kochi tea auction had fair general demand and prices of most varieties remained steady.

High-priced CTC varieties ruled steady, while good mediums and other CTC varieties were steady to dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2.

Orthodox varieties also remained steady. Blenders were active in the market, while bolder grades witnessed enquiry from exporters.

Best CTC dust commanded prices of Rs 65-78, medium CTC was at Rs 53-63 while below medium ranged between Rs 48-51.

High grown BOPD quoted at Rs 75-134 and medium BOPD was at Rs 48-52. The quantity on offer at the leaf sale fell to 1,85,000 kg.

Orthodox high grown varieties remained steady at last week's levels.

Better medium orthodox grades were firm to dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2, while secondaries remained barely steady. CTCs too remained steady to dearer by a rupee. Leaf grades generally witnessed good enquiries from exporters.

Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 85-115, medium orthodox were at Rs 43-51 while plain orthodox was not quoted. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 53-55 and medium CTC was at Rs 48-52.

Top Prices

Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price in the dust segment at Rs 132 followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 90, Pasuparai SFD at Rs 90 and Chinnar SFD at Rs 87. In the leaf segment, Tiger Hill OP fetched the top price at Rs 141 followed by Tiger Hills FOPS at Rs 140, Tiger Hill FOP at Rs 140 and Havukal FOP at Rs 135.
