Mumbai March 14 Elder Pharmaceuticals Ltd has entered into an alliance with Spain's Laboratorios Farmaceuticos Rovi SA to market advanced heparins or anti-thrombotics in India for treatment and prevention of diseases like deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Heparins are used as anti-coagulants to prevent blood from clotting.

The joint initiative between the two companies will see the introduction of Bemiparin in India the patented, second-generation heparin used in the prevention and treatment of thrombo-embolic venous diseases a note from the company said.
In India, Bemiparin is likely to be launched in a couple of months under the HIBOR brandname, and the price of the medicine would be firmed-up then, an industry representative familiar with the development said.
The total anti-thrombotic market in India is estimated to be about Rs 130 crore with products largely from multinational companies including Sanofi-Aventis and Novartis, the note added.
