The Hindu Business Line : Airtel launches `School Alerts'

Hyderabad March 18 Communication between school authorities and parents could soon be as fast as sending an SMS if Airtel's new offering gets the thumbs up.

Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of `School Alerts', an SMS service. The service will help schools to communicate to the parents important information with regard to the wards.

Apart from information on examinations, meets and events on a regular basis, `School Alert' would SMS the course of action taken by the schools in case of any natural calamity or emergency to avoid confusion and anxiety, which parents undergo, the company said in a press release.

Each school enrolled for this service would get a username and password to log on to the Web site. The school authorities need to upload students' data with parents' mobile numbers in a Excel sheet and send the SMS to all the parents. The database has to be created only once and can be saved.

The CEO of Bharti Airtel Ltd, Andhra Pradesh, Mr Elango. T, said at the launch that the `School Alert' would help schools and parents to be better informed about their wards and get regular updates.
