Airlines Government - Policy Withdraw congestion surcharge, airlines told Our Bureau
New Delhi March 20 The Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, said on Tuesday that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked all scheduled airlines to withdraw the congestion surcharge. "The airlines have been given a week's time (up to March 21) to respond," the Minister told Parliament. He pointed out that private sector scheduled airlines were charging air congestion surcharge on their entire network and added that domestic airfares were not regulated by the Government after the repeal of the Air Corporation Act 1953. Most domestic airlines imposed a congestion surcharge of Rs 150 to offset the higher operating expenses they incur due to traffic congestion at several airports. The State-owned Indian, however, decided against imposing the surcharge.
