Bail denied to Xponse's Sanjay Kedia

Our Legal Correspondent

Kolkata, March 21

A Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court comprising Mr Justice Aloke Kumar Basu and Mr Justice Kalidas Mukherjee on Wednesday dismissed the bail petition of Mr Sanjay Kumar Kedia, who was arrested for alleged drug peddling in January 2007, under the NDPS Act.

He is the Chairman of Xponse IT India Pvt Ltd, with office in the Salt Lake IT sector.

Mr Kedia allegedly transacted narcotics over the Internet and was maintaining a huge establishment of 350 employees with a big office. Police at the time of his arrest recovered Rs 33 lakh cash and many other foreign bank pass books and indication of other deposits from his office.

While moving the bail petition, the counsel of Mr Kedia denied all the charges, stating these as fabricated and malicious. A person maintaining huge office of high profile in the important location of IT Sector, Salt Lake, cannot be associated with the said acts, the officer, NCB, Eastern Zone was alleging.

The alleged narcotics substances cannot be peddled over the Net as it was a substance having its own form, the counsel argued.

After hearing the parties, the court rejected the bail prayer of Mr Kedia.
