Jubilant signs $60-m global contracts

Our Bureau

Kolkata March 21 Jubilant Organosys, an integrated pharmaceuticals and large custom research and manufacturing services player, has signed international contracts worth $60 million for 2007.

According to an official release, the contracts, which form part of the order book for the calendar year 2007, have been finalised with some leading global life sciences companies. A substantial portion of these contracts, some $54 million, is attributable to the regulated markets of the US and Europe, which have been the focus area of growth for the company.

In addition to these annual contracts, the company also executes half-yearly, quarterly and monthly contracts and spot sales, as part of its normal business. Mr Shyam S. Bhartia, Chairman and Managing Director, said that with India emerging as a cost-competitive outsourcing base for global majors, Jubilant was now emerging as the preferred partner for custom research and manufacturing to global leaders in the pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals industry.

He also said that Jubilant possessed a strong intellectual knowledge base and proven capabilities to develop cost-efficient solutions, particularly in the life sciences segment.

According to Mr Hari S. Bhartia, co-Chairman, the company has invested close to Rs 200 crore in the last two years on augmenting its manufacturing capabilities and strengthening its R&D backbone in custom research and manufacturing.

He said that the company has presence across the pharmaceuticals value chain, from drug discovery, functional chemistry and clinical research services to custom research and manufacturing for advanced intermediates and fine chemicals, active pharma ingredients and dosage forms.

"The addition of these annual contracts re-affirms our global position in the field. We will continue to focus on the twin strategies of investments in innovation and world-class manufacturing facilities as key competitive differentiators."

Mr Shyam Bhartia said that the company was in advanced talks with several other global life sciences companies.

"We are confident of signing several other contracts over the next few months."
