FICCI wants inspections to go

Our Bureau

New Delhi, March 21

FICCI has expressed the need for introducing a system of self-certification in place of inspections for the industry for environment, labour and other regulations. According to a survey conducted by the chamber, inspections are resulting in excessive loss of man-hours to the industry and involve high compliance cost.

An industrial unit could be subject to as many 106 inspections in a year under environmental regulations, the survey said. Most of these inspections can be easily done away with for those industrial units that are members of common effluent treatment plant (CETP), if CETP is working satisfactorily.
