Retailing aLL lines up growth plans Anjali Prayag
Bangalore March 28 Plus is getting noticed. The aLL Future Group's retail format for oversized people currently has eight stores and expects to be present in 50 locations in three years. The `A little larger (aLL)' brand offers wardrobe solutions for fashion-conscious men and women between 25 and 40. "This is a growing market for us. In fact, 10 per cent of our customers ask for plus sizes," said Ms Darshana H. Chandarana, Deputy Manager, aLL. The Future Group is targeting a turnover of Rs 100 crore by 2010 in this category, she added. Slotted in the mid-to-premium range (Rs 499 to Rs 2500), aLL offers waist sizes 34 to 44 for apparel for women and 40-50 for men. The range includes western wear, ethnic wear, formal wear and eveningwear. Soon, the stores will showcase accessories like belts, handbags, scarves and ties, Ms Chandarana said. An in-house design team works on the apparel and most of the products are first tried on people within the company, according to her. The plus-size concept has been received well in Western and Southern India because of the large presence of NRIs, she said. "NRIs are fashion- and fit-conscious and would not feel awkward about walking into a store meant for plus-sized people." Currently, aLL is present in 15 locations in Mumbai (three stores), Indore, Ahmedabad (two stores), Baroda, Bangalore (two stores) and Hyderabad, Pune, Noida, Delhi and Chennai.
